Beginning with the use of gas lighting in the 1810s, followed by the invention of the electric light bulb in 1879 and the fluorescent lamp in 1938, lighting has developed technically and in terms of design to exist in various formats today. In terms of color, warm colors are favored in Europe and the U.S. while whiter colors are preferred in Asia. Fluorescent lighting is used in living rooms and offices, incandescent bulbs in restrooms and baths while many stores employ halogen lamps for decorative purposes, the result being that various lighting is used throughout the world day and night. Amidst this, the archetype of LED lighting ? the white LED ? was created in 1996, and in a little more than ten years LED lighting has developed at great speed to its current state today. Global warming has been the subject of a lot of attention in recent years, and one of the most important issues we must tackle is the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. For example, it is estimated that some 30 percent of power used at a business is for lighting, and changing the existing lighting to LED lighting can make a significant contribution to reducing that.
